Online Speaker Meeting: Don't Bottle It Up Mental Health Awareness: Darren Hands
We look forward to welcoming Darren Hands, President of Plymouth Rotary, to tell us about the don't Bottle It Up Campaign. In 2017 he founded the rotarians4MentalHealth awareness campaign "Don't Bottle It Up" - a campaign trying to help break down the stigma of mental health issues. The talk will detail how the Don't Bottle It Up mental health awareness came to be and what we as Rotarians can do in this field.
He is a Board Member of the Rotary Action Group on Mental Health Initiatives and was a panellist at the 2020 Rotary International Online Convention breakout sessions on mental health issues.
Darren says of himself:
I was in Rotaract for 5 years before forming the Plymouth Albion Rotary Club in 2001. In 2006 I transferred to Plympton Rotary. I served on my district team for 13 years and have also been an RI Assistant Public Image Coordinator.
In my spare time I was (for 18 years) a match day steward (and lately) the Safety Officer at Plymouth Albion Rugby Club, finally giving up this role 18 months ago. I am a keen photographer and am the match day photographer for Ivybridge Ladies Rugby Club (formerly Plymouth Albion Ladies) and will shortly be taking on a similar role for Saltash United FC.
