Thanks to Peter Maliphant, from Portishead Railway Group, who gave us an interesting update on the progress towards bringing the railway back to Portishead. The Portishead Railway Group has long campaigned for the Portishead to Bristol railway line to be reopened.
Peter explained the various challenges, risks and hurdles that have delayed this project over past years. He reassured us that there was now no doubt that the project would go ahead as part of the MetroWest project...there is a clear plan and funding is in place. Currently, lots of work is going on behind the scenes, as the various procedures and permissions are completed, and definite progress is being made even if there is little evidence on the ground.
Peter shared an artist's view of the proposed station and the new station and road layout plan. The latest estimate is that the first trains will run in December 2023!
