We were delighted to welcome back Liz Odell to give an inspirational update on the latest news from ShelterBox and the effect of Covid-19 on the charity. This included a dramatic fall in income following the start of the lockdown which could leave the charity with a significant deficit for the year. Some of this was due to Rotary clubs being unable to fundraise and also a general fall in donations as the public had other priorities as they adjusted to Covid. Despite the financial issues, Shelterbox is still working in several areas of the world and has supplies ready to respond to a major disaster if required. Cargo flights are still operating even if it has not been possible to send out Shelterbox personnel to the field (due to travel restrictions, quarantine regulations and potential risk of spreading Covid). Shelterbox has always worked with local partners where possible and this has been increasingly important during the current crisis. Liz encouraged Rotary clubs to continue to support Shelterbox and pointed any interested clubs to suggestions on the Shelterbox website: https://www.shelterbox.org/ .
We were delighted to be joined by 11 visitors from several clubs in the UK and also from Montego Bay in Jamaica.
